WebPix Pro Documents
Version 1.0
From installation to your first conversion and delivering WebP and AVIF images. Follow each step with clear instructions and real screenshots.
Start with installation →Quick start
WebPix creates WebP and AVIF copies of your WordPress images and serves them to visitors. Your original files stay intact. This guide takes you through installation, your first conversion, and checking the results.
You will need permission to install plugins, the WebPix Pro ZIP package, and an ARNA activation code from your ARN account. Back up your site and media files before you begin.
Install WebPix in WordPress
Prepare the Pro ZIP package
Download the WebPix Pro installation package to your computer. Keep it as a ZIP file; you do not need to extract it. This document covers WebPix Pro 2.0.3. A newer plugin release may have a slightly different interface.
Open the plugin upload screen
In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add Plugin → Upload Plugin. Depending on your WordPress version, the menu may say Add New Plugin.
Select the file and install it
Click Choose File and select the WebPix Pro ZIP package. Click Install Now. When installation finishes, click Activate Plugin.
Open the WebPix menu
ARN WebPix appears in the WordPress sidebar. On a new installation without an active license, WebPix opens the License screen. Complete activation before converting images.
Activate your Pro license
Get an ARNA activation code
Get a WebPix activation code from your ARN account. The code starts with ARNA-…, can be used once, and connects your license to your site address.
Enter the code on the License screen
Go to ARN WebPix → License. Paste the code into Activation code and click Activate.
Confirm the active connection
Look for Active and the License active indicator in the header. Check the Site address in the Connection card. Use Check now to verify the connection again.
Find your way around
| Tab | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Overview | See conversions, file-size savings, waiting images, and a health summary. |
| Optimize | Convert in bulk, follow jobs, regenerate copies, and compare one image. |
| Library | Search and filter images, check their status, and process individual items. |
| Settings | Choose format, quality, source files, automation, and speed. |
| Delivery & CDN | Choose how copies reach visitors, check a page, and optionally configure a CDN. |
| License | Activate Pro and check the license connection. |
| Support | Check server health, read logs, and download a support file. |
Library coverage reflects your selected formats and image sizes. Converted means complete; Partly means some copies are missing; Not converted means not yet converted; Failed means conversion failed. “Saved” measures file-size savings, rather than a page-speed score.
Choose format and quality
Select an output format
Open Settings → Format. WebP is a practical starting choice. AVIF may produce smaller copies but can take longer to encode. Both creates both formats and uses more disk space. If you see Not supported on this server, your hosting environment cannot encode that format.
Choose the quality
Start with Quality → Balanced for most websites. Try High for photography and portfolios, or Smallest for smaller files. Custom lets you set WebP and AVIF quality separately. Check a sample photo before applying your choice across the library.
Check source file types
In Source files, keep JPG/JPEG and PNG enabled. Enable other types as needed. PDF previews require Imagick with PDF support. WebM video conversion requires FFmpeg. Unsupported options may be unavailable.
Save your changes
Changing a setting reveals the You have unsaved changes bar at the bottom. Click Save changes to apply it. Discard abandons changes you have not saved.
Convert your existing library
Check what is waiting
Open Optimize. The images waiting count shows images still needing conversion. If a library check is running, let it finish. Use Check library again if you need a fresh scan.
Start conversion
Check Output and Speed, then click Start conversion. The button is disabled when nothing is waiting. In the demo below, the library has already been converted.
Follow the job
In Jobs, follow the completed/total count. Use Pause to pause a running job, Resume to continue it, or Cancel to stop it. Canceling does not undo copies already created.
Keeping this page open helps the job run faster. A job you start can continue in the background after you leave, provided WordPress scheduled tasks are working. Large libraries and AVIF encoding can take longer.
Verify the result
Check Library for incomplete or failed items. Then use Delivery & CDN → Check a page to confirm that visitors receive the converted images.
Check individual images
- Open Library and search by image title or file name.
- For a Not converted item, use Convert now. For a Partial item, use Complete to create missing copies.
- Use Regenerate when an existing copy needs to be recreated.
- Go to Optimize → Inspector → Pick an image from the media library. Select an image to compare the original and its copies with real file sizes.
- In WordPress Media → Library, look for the WebPix badge. The WebPix card in an image’s details includes View / Download links for generated formats.
If a copy is larger than the original, WebPix serves the original to visitors. Savings vary from image to image; compare visual quality as well as file size.
Automate uploads and set the speed
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Convert new uploads | Automatically starts conversion for newly uploaded images. |
| Background worker | Processes the queue at your chosen interval using WordPress scheduled tasks. |
| Convert missing sizes on page view | Adds an image size to the background queue if a page uses it without a copy. |
| Smart worker | On PHP-FPM or LiteSpeed, processes a small batch after the visitor’s response has been sent. |
Under Performance, choose Gentle for shared hosting, Balanced for regular use, or Fast for a VPS or dedicated server with enough resources. If conversion slows down your server, switch to Gentle and click Save changes.
Verify image delivery
Choose the delivery method
Go to Delivery & CDN → Delivery method. Replace image URLs points pages directly to the converted copies. <picture> with fallback provides supported formats with the original as a fallback. Off still allows copies to be created, but leaves the original images in page output.
Clear cached pages
Save your delivery choice. Clear your WordPress page cache and, if used, your CDN cache. Cached page HTML may still contain the previous image URLs.
Check a page
In Check a page, enter the address of a page on your site that contains images. Click Check. The result tells you how many library images on that page are served as WebP/AVIF. For example, “8 of 8” means all eight checked images use a converted format.
This checks one page, rather than the entire site. Check your homepage, a post, and a product page if relevant. Also open them as a visitor and confirm that they look correct.
If you use a CDN
Fill in CDN address for copies only when you use a separate CDN address for the converted files. Leave it empty if Cloudflare proxies your entire site.
- Select your provider under Purge through.
- Enter the required API token/key and Zone/Service ID, then save.
- Click Test connection.
- Once the test succeeds, enable Purge changed files automatically and save again.
Purge everything clears the entire CDN cache. If you do not use a CDN, you can leave these fields empty.
Regenerate and maintain your copies
After changing quality
Go to Optimize → Regenerate copies → Regenerate … images to recreate existing WebPix copies using your current settings. Read the confirmation before proceeding. This deletes and recreates WebPix copies while keeping original images intact. It can take time on a large library.
If image tiles are empty
Check Library → Missing image sizes. The Rebuild missing sizes button in the warning regenerates missing WordPress sizes from the original, then creates their converted copies. If the original file itself is missing, restore it from a backup first.
Check disk usage
- Run Library → Storage → Check storage.
- If files are listed as without an original, open Review and delete and inspect them.
- Untick anything you want to keep. Leave only the files you want to remove selected.
- Delete selected removes the selected copies. Check your selection before completing deletion.
Switching from another optimizer
Read the notices under Optimize → Switching from another optimizer?. Import existing copies can reuse eligible WebP/AVIF files from supported plugins. Not every existing file can be imported.
If you want to keep those copies, import them before deactivating the previous plugin. Two plugins converting and delivering the same images at once may conflict.
Troubleshooting and support
Why is Start conversion disabled?
If no images are waiting, conversion may already be complete. Check that source types are enabled in Settings and that the library scan has finished. If the license is inactive, complete activation on the License screen first.
AVIF is unavailable or conversion fails
Check GD/Imagick format support under Support → Health and System. If your hosting environment does not support AVIF, use WebP or ask your hosting provider about AVIF support. Read the failure reason under Optimize → Needs attention. After resolving the cause, use Retry all.
A conversion job is not progressing
Check whether the job is paused in Jobs. Keep the page open and try Gentle speed. In Support, check free disk space, PHP memory, and scheduled tasks. If a cron warning appears, ask your hosting provider to verify scheduling.
Copies exist, but visitors still see JPG/PNG
Make sure Delivery method is not Off. Clear the page cache, then run Check a page. Copies larger than their originals are not served. Images outside the media library or hosted on another server may fall outside the check’s scope.
The license will not activate
Make sure the code is for WebPix, has not been used, and is intended for the correct site. ARNA codes are single-use; get a new code from your ARN account if necessary. For an existing connection, use Check now. Include the error message in your support request, but do not share your activation code.
What should I prepare for a support request?
- Click Support → Download support file.
- Note the affected page address, the steps you took, and the error message.
- If needed, enable Debug mode and click Save changes. Reproduce the issue, then download a fresh support file. Debug mode switches off automatically after 24 hours.
The support file contains settings, system information, statistics, and recent logs. License keys, secrets, and CDN tokens are excluded. Attach the file to your support request.
Updating or removing WebPix
Back up your site before updating. Apply the available update from the WordPress Plugins screen. If updating by ZIP, use the correct Pro package. Afterwards, check the plugin version, License status, Library results, and Check a page again.
Deactivation and deletion are different. Under Support → When WebPix is deleted, Remove settings and statistics and Also delete the WebP/AVIF copies apply only when the plugin is deleted. Keep these options off if you want to preserve your settings and copies.
